This was a great project to be part of and like the gin in the brochure it was refreshing to do something slightly different.
As Sir Winston Churchill was once quoted as saying: The Gin & Tonic as saved more Englishmen’s lives and minds than all the doctors in the Empire
The client came to EDGE with a request to help them revamp and update their old Gin & Tonic menu which was now several years old. Not only did it not include several new Gins but the ‘look and feel’ were no longer in sync with the client.
The Royal Standard Inn is a traditional village freehouse pub in Dorset. The Gin menu has become a firm favourite with the locals and visitors alike and after 3 years it was definitely time for a refresh.
As the menu was to be printed by commercial printers rather than in-house, we were able to look at changing the dimensions of the brochure as well as the design. Historically the old brochure was A5 in size (quite standard) but we wanted the new brochure to look physically different as well. We went with a 200m x 200m square format. This meant that the brochure would still fit inside a standard envelope if it was required to be posted.
We also extended the page count from 8 to 12 (including covers). The additional real-estate meant that we had plenty of room for the additional list items but could also make the design much more aesthetic with plenty of space, bold images.
The end result is an attractive brochure that grabs the attention and draws the reader further into the book.
